Olonetskiye Eparkhial’nye Vedomosti
church periodical press.
|Аннотация: The article surveys sermons by hieromartyr Thaddeus (Uspenskiy), the archbishop, published in the newspaper “Olonetskiye Eparkhial’nye Vedomosti” (“OEV”). Thaddeus (Uspenskiy) served in many Russian cities and taught in several theological seminaries. He actively preached through all of his life. He was martyred in 1937 and glorified in 1997. The extensive literary heritage he left has not yet been studied for the most part. The sermons make up a considerable part of it. The pages of the newspaper carry the sermons said by Thaddeus (Uspenskiy) in churches of Petrozavodsk and its educational institutions during a six-year period of his service here as archimandrite, head of the Olonets theological seminary and editor-in-chief of the “OEV”. Most of these sermons are “Homilies”. They are studied in comparison with the demands of the genre of sermon and one of its forms called homily. The article concludes that Thaddeus (Uspenskiy’s) sermons can be considered as classical examples of preaching. At the same time, they show author’s individual writing manner, which entitles us to speak of his idiostyle. Thaddeus (Uspenskiy’s) homiletical texts published in the “OEV” represent a stage of his writing work linked with Petrozavodsk and the Olonets diocese.|
