Аннотация: The article presents an analysis of quantitative data in programs of political parties in modern Russia according to the frequent application of the discourse of the national idea in texts. The methodology of case-study is used to research the case of Karelia in the article. The choice of Karelia is determined by the specific character of the region, its cross-border position to Northern Europe. This allows to observe a conflict of authoritarian and democratic values in the region. The logical analysis of party programs is carried out in the work together with the content-analysis methodology. The purpose of the article is to identify the number of the political party programs, which offer the mythologema of the national idea as a basis of Russian people’s unity and which support party legitimacy in the country. The article represents two groups of hypotheses. The first one is connected with the frequency of the phrase «national idea» in party programs. The second hypothesis covers all party programs in terms of other meanings of the «national idea» phenomenon and the frequency of the definitions. The main results of the author’s research are as follows: the national idea is not the dominant value of the public consciousness of Russians. It is only a means of influence of political elites on the public opinion. The actors, who from time to time declare it, are mostly motivated by populism to achieve their goals. The mythological character of the national idea is enhanced by the pragmatism of political forces. The parties, which have a real weight in the political system of the country, both on the federal and regional levels, use the discourse of the national idea to promote its value to the state citizens. However, despite the fact that the phenomenon influences their legitimacy, it is neither the only nor the dominant indicator of it. So, the analysis of political party programs with the use of only the discourse of national idea does not allow to establish the role and importance of parties in the political process both of the Russian Federation, and of its particular subject, Republic of Karelia.
