Ключевые слова: sociological monitoring university applicant first-year student motivation education university | Аннотация: The article presents the results of the sociological monitoring “The study of the qualitative composition of entrants and their motivation for entering Petrozavodsk State University” conducted in the fall of 2021. This sociological monitoring has been carried out at Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU) annually since 2011 by the Laboratory for Social Research and the Directorate of Pre-University and Career Guidance. The purpose of the sociological monitoring is to determine the qualitative characteristics of entrants and identify their dominant motives for entering PetrSU. The object of the present study is the first-year students admitted to PetrSU in 2021. The subject of the study is the qualitative composition of the studied population and their motivation for becoming PetrSU students. The authors formed the sample population with the help of the convenience sampling (available sampling) and used the survey as the key research method. In total, 1,313 first-year students from 11 PetrSU institutes took part in the sociological monitoring in 2021. The obtained quantitative data were processed and analyzed by means of the MS Excel and SPSS programs. Based on the results of the sociological monitoring, the qualitative characteristics of the entrants were identified and their main motives for entering PetrSU were determined.
