Аннотация: The article examines the problem of reception of ancient heritage in Russian journalism of the 19th century using the example of two magazines: Lyceum of 1806 and Moskovityanin published in 1842-1856. The research methodology is based on a comparative statistical and content analysis of the texts of all issues of these publications. The comparison is based on a number of indicators, including the number of referrals to antiquity, the use of ancient literary genres, the number of references to ancient authors, historical persons, images and geographical names, and the number of translations and citations. The study pays particular attention to the analysis of philosophical, literary and historical problems that are viewed by the nineteenth-century Russian publicists through the prism of the experience of ancient philosophers, poets and writers. As a result, it is concluded that the reception of ancient heritage is clearly observable in the Russian journalism of the 19th century, but this heritage is apparently reduced from the beginning to the middle of the century due to the change in artistic styles and in the historical and cultural situation as a whole.
