Аннотация: The paper explores the impact of European troubadour poetry and the epic tale of Tristan and Isolde on Ivan Turgenev’s short novel The Song of Triumphant Love (1881). Through an analysis of the protagonist’s love, it is concluded that the author employs the folklore concept of “love melancholy” within the context of forbidden marriage. The description of love sickness follows the pattern of various sagas of skaldic poetry, while desire, ignited by evil magic, and the portrayal of true love in European court poetry are combined in this literary work with erotic suffering.
