According to an analytical report by Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM), effective social policy in the realm of family welfare requires studying emerging trends within the institution of the family. Consequently, sociological research, indirectly or directly, plays a crucial role in shaping family policy outcomes. Although studies on family trends have been ongoing for over 20 years, the lack of significant changes in demographic processes raises questions about the extent to which sociological research influences the effectiveness of family policies. This study aims to identify key change patterns in contemporary Russian family research, based on data from sociological studies. The primary method employed is content analysis of articles published in the Sociological Studies (Sotsiologicheskie Issledovaniya) journal under the rubric “Sociology of the Family”. The analyzed articles were categorized into several thematic groups corresponding to specific research topics. Additionally, a functional distribution of articles was examined to gain a comprehensive understanding of research focus areas. The findings highlight the main trends in the evolution of the modern Russian family, particularly in the areas of socialization and reproduction – two functions that are most frequently studied. Over the period from 2000 to 2023, there has been a notable increase in the number of publications dedicated to family research. The most prevalent topics include parenthood, reproductive functions, and socialization processes, which are equally represented in the literature. © Petrozavodsk State University |
