Аннотация: The article aims to describe the characteristic features of the concept of “Swedishness” (from the Swedish term Svenskhet) found in works on sociology and cultural studies, that implies a special self-understanding of society, a manifestation of Swedish national identity, consisting of cultural experience, common history, and language. The article analyzes the authors’ perception of the image of the Swedish outback in Mikael Niemi’s novel Popular Music from Vittula (2000) and Fredrik Backman’s novel Beartown (2016).
