Аннотация: The article examines the key barriers and drivers of tourist development in the Kostomuksha municipal district of the Republic of Karelia, based on local community perceptions. The relevance of the study is underscored by the need to reorient tourist flows towards the domestic market after the closure of the state border. A total of 212 district residents were surveyed via an online questionnaire. The findings reveal that while the local community positively assesses the economic potential of tourism, it also notes deficiencies in infrastructure and service. Respondents identified ecotourism and cultural-historical tourism as the primary drivers of future development. Finally, the study provides practical recommendations for government authorities, business community, and non-profit organizations to overcome the identified barriers.
